Guilty Pleasures

Once again, the Kids Games section becomes a trip back to our guiltiest childhood pleasures. Today we are featuring two of my favorite TV shows back then: Scooby Doo (Where are you?) and Power Rangers (yes, pretty much all different versions of them). Let’s see what we can find.

The first game is Scooby Doo, and while the subject of our game becomes quite clear just by reading the name of the game, its nature is not. Surprisingly enough, this is a skateboarding game, in which you can choose among Scooby, Shaggy or their van (yes, their van) to try and jump as high as you can. Controls are fairly easy to use, and you can choose among four different settings that make the game a lot cooler than other versions of the same premise. Oh, did I mention that you can customize your board? Well, you can. And on top of all of that, there are three different modes to play and make this a really varied game. Pretty neat.

Scooby Doo Ripping Rides, on the other hand, is a surfing game. However, the game is perhaps not as different from the previous one as one would think: controls are pretty much the same, and you can also choose among five different surf boards. Now, difficulty somehow increases, for keeping a dog balanced on a surf board is apparently not as easy as one would think. It might actually be quite infuriating, really, but once you get the hang of it, it’s all downhill from there.

Power Rangers are a totally different thing, though. Power Rangers Training is an interesting, quite varied game in that it involves five different challenges or stages of sorts (one for each Power Ranger – which means there are five of them, just in case you have no idea what I am talking about), in which you have to do different things. The novelty here is that you use your mouse in order to do so, which is different from the other three games featured today. Other than that, things are quite peaceful in this game (but only because you are training as a Ranger, remember!).

Power Rangers Ninja Storm is quite different, though. Here you have over twenty different stages in which difficulty increases as you go along. Many varied obstacles start appearing and you have to find a way to overcome them as effectively as you can, in order to reach the gate that will text you to the following screen. Quite different from jumping on boards and training statically!
