Tales of the Jungle

I laid my hand on the very first cell phone I owned almost by accident. Everybody had one, but I wasn’t really interested, really; it seemed like too big an investment, one I didn’t think would pay off. That was when my dad finally took pity on me, and showed up at home with a brand new Nokia 1100 (yes, that will tell you exactly how long ago it was). Let me tell you, I love that phone. Since then I have moved on to Sony Ericsson (I own a pretty decent W580i), but I haven’t let go of my Nokia. And one of the reasons why I haven’t is today’s theme: Snake. Endless hours of fun with the simplest of games, which can also be found at BGames.

Snake is the most traditional, basic version featured in the Classic section. Graphics are as basic as the cell phone version, and you have three levels of difficulty: Slug, Worm and Python. There are no walls other than that of the screen boundaries, so the difficulty lies, as the name of the levels very well suggests, in the speed.

Snake II is pretty much the same thing, except that there is only one standard speed. No variations of the game here. The only novelty here is that you have a limited number of lives; only three strikes and you are out.

The game changes a bit more with Snake Runner. First of all, you have five different levels of difficulty (which means five different speeds): Simple, Easy, Medium, Hard and Extreme. And then, you have twenty-five different stages. Wait, what? You see, the trick here is that this is no traditional game really, since each phase has to be completed by hitting the red block. Snake Runner incorporates walls to the equation, and each level brings a new layout.

Snaaaake on the other hand, goes back to basics… kind of. The objective of the game is becoming as large as you can, by eating the green dots. So far, so good. The thing is, here you move like an actual snake, slithering, which makes things a lot harder because getting used to it takes time. There are three levels of difficulty, and you also need to steer clear from red dots.

And then, we have Snake Eats Zombies. There’s a snake, there are zombies, what more can you ask for? However, the name of the game is actually misleading: there is little eating involved here. As a snake, you actually have to shoot zombies in order to kill them, and *then* you can eat them and get larger. There are five different challenges you can complete, that range from killing 250 zombies to surviving for 95 seconds without killing a single one of them.

Five variations of Snake. Does that sound easy enough? Well, just give them a try. You might have to change your mind.
