Featured Board Games

Ships, magnets, gems, blocks. These four things, and many others, have in common the BGames Board Games section. It shouldn’t surprise us, really: after all, we can find almost anything in here. Everything can be turned into a decent flash game. It only takes a little imagination.

Take, for example, MagnetiBall. This is a simple game: you have to get the ball from the starting point to the end area. How are you supposed to do that? By using the magnets present in each level, which attract the ball and help you direct it to the ending. There are 60 levels and, as it often is, each of them adds new features to increase the difficulty, if only by rearranging the layout.

You may also have a game such as Jungle Magic. The premise is quite simple and has been done many times before: you have to swap adjacent tiles in order to get lines of three or more of them and get them to explode. Of course, the game itself has a whole mythology lying behind it, which is supposed to make it different from others of its kind. There are 22 different levels, meaning that this is a race against time, as well. It is not just about blowing up as many tiles as you can, but also getting the pieces to the bottom of the game field. How is that for a change?

You can also find classics here: see Battleships. This is a flash version of the ultimate classic game (and by ‘classic’ also read ‘very very old’). There are five different kinds of ships (which occupy from one to five places) that you can locate anywhere you want in your board. Once you do so, you start playing against the computer, taking turns. However, when somebody hits a ship gets awarded an extra opportunity, until s/he misses. Graphics are pretty cool: imagine all the splashing when you hit water, imagine the explosion when you actually sink part of your opponent’s aircraft carrier!

Finally there are really, really cool games such as Gravitat, which is the complete novelty among these four, the one true original game, in my opinion. There are two game modes, level and survival (in which the ‘level’ never ends; it is an “all you can take” mode), but basically the objective of the game is the same. There are four types of blocks (different colors, not shapes — they are all squared), which you have to drop on the black (magnetic) one. This black block rotates. So, the challenge is being smart enough to drop the blocks in such a way that it will be possible to line up three of a kind in order to make them disappear. Get that?

So, this is not about what else can be turned into a flash game. It is just a matter of how.
