Unconventional Racing Games
The one thing that has been a constant while reviewing games is the fact that categories never are what they seem. That is precisely what happens with the Racing Games category: you have mostly what can be considered as stereotyped games, but you also have other games. Some of them barely meet the pre-established criteria, but some others, as unorthodox as they may seem, or as innovative as their premises may be, cannot be denied their status or questioned as members of this group.
Take Freeway Fallguy, for example. At plain sight, this is a typical racing game, no questions asked. However, the basic objective of the game has nothing to do with winning a race: keeping Ray on top of the car. The story goes like this: you are a stunt driver hired to work in the shooting of a music video for rock band Raygun. As such, you’re supposed to a) keep Ray safe on top of your car, and b) hit all the director’s marks. The car goes really fast, and the game is so challenging that whenever you lose (and believe me, it won’t take long), you have the possibility of watching the final cut of the video in order to get hints of what the freeway may hold for you.
Mountain Rescue Driver, on the other hand, is peculiar because of the vehicle: you drive a special rescue truck that must overcome different obstacles in order to get injured men to the hospital. Some of the obstacles, however, are crucial, since you can – and must – take advantage of them in order to complete your mission.

In any case, when one thinks of this section, the first thing that comes to mind are, well, cars. Cave Hunter defies all that, of course. Here you are a pilot, and your [not so] simple mission is getting through the cave in one piece. Controls are in the keyboard, and they take some time getting used to; time that, given the speed of the plane, you don’t always have, guaranteeing you will need a lot more than just one try to complete this game.
Motorcycle Dummy is the most traditional of all four games featured today. The premise is pretty basic: drive the motorbike without crashing it against the huge rocks the road presents. Well, that’s a lot easier said than done, because whatever the fuel they pump on this baby is, it works wonders! The bike is controlled using the mouse, and that is actually a good thing in this case. Considering the fact that the speed the bike reaches is amazing, using the keyboard would be completely futile; this particular race against yourself demands soft yet firm hands and quick reflexes. Points are awarded by distance completed, and as old as that may sound, believe me when I tell you that it is challenging enough as it is!

This wide variety of games is only a sample, we all know that. However, as a representative taste of what BGames racing games have to offer, we can be sure that choosing something other than traditional is a risk worth taking.
